1. Are there subscription fees associated with Tempy?

No. Tempy comes with unlimited free access to our online web application and data logging services.

2. Is a smartphone required to use Tempy?

No. A smartphone is recommended for mobile access to our web application and text alerts but is not required. Tempy can be accessed and fully managed through a web browser from anywhere in the world.

3. Will Tempy work anywhere in the world?

Yes. Tempy uses the 2.4GHz ISM band (same as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth) and will work anywhere in the world.

4. Can I add additional Tempy sensors to my Tempy sensor network?

Yes. Additional Tempy sensors can be added to your account at any time. There is no limit to the amount of Tempy sensors you can have and they can all be managed through a single account.

5. What powers the Tempy sensor and gateway?

  • The Tempy sensor is power by two AA batteries (included)
  • The Tempy gateway is powered by 5V Micro-USB (120V Adapter and USB Cable Included)

7. What is the Tempy sensor’s battery life?

Tempy sensors will last up to 5 years using alkaline batteries (household batteries) and up to 10 years when using lithium batteries (required when Tempy sensors are deployed in sub-zero temperatures).

8. How can Tempy last for up to 10 years on batteries when most Wi-Fi sensors only last up to a few months?

Although Tempy sensors use the 2.4GHz ISM band for wireless communication, they do not use the Wi-Fi communication protocol. Tempy uses a proprietary low-power wireless communication protocol which allows them to last for up to 10 years on batteries (lithium).

9. Some Wi-Fi sensors claim 6-8 months of battery life. How is this possible?

It is likely that these Wi-Fi sensors save power by transmitting data in one-hour intervals. This is much less (30x) than Tempy’s two-minute intervals.

10. What makes the Tempy sensor low-power?

Tempy sensors send very small messages to the gateway. Because of this small message size, both the data transmission duration and power consumption requirements very low.

11. What is Tempy’s communication range?

In optimal conditions, Tempy sensors have a wireless communication range of up to 4000 ft (1200 m) with the Tempy gateway. In less optimal conditions Tempy still has an impressive communication range that outperforms both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

12. What gives the Tempy its vast communication range?

Tempy’s proprietary low-power wireless communication protocol that grants the Tempy sensors with such a long battery life is also what gives Tempy its extensive communication range.

13. Will Tempy sensors work in extreme temperatures?

Yes. Tempy sensors have an operational temperature of between -40°F and 140°F (-40°C and 60°C). This makes Tempy ideal for monitoring fridges, freezers, and other perishable storage units. Please keep in mind that lithium batteries are required to power electronics with temperatures below 23°F (-5°C).

14. Can Tempy sensors be used outdoors?

Yes. The Tempy sensor is built for both indoor and outdoor use with a sealed chassis protecting it from dust ingress and low-pressure water jets.

15. How do Tempy sensors measure humidity through the IP67 certified casing?

Tempy sensors have a breathable membrane vent allowing for airflow to the internal humidity sensor, while at the same time stopping water from penetrating the casing.

16. What is the purpose of the Tempy gateway?

Because Tempy sensors are not connected directly to the internet they need to “pass” all the data they’ve collected to an internet connected gateway, which in turn delivers it to the cloud.

17. Are Tempy sensors paired with one specific gateway?

No. Tempy sensors operate in the same way that a cell-phone communicates with cell towers. They will connect to any Tempy gateway that’s within range and start transmitting data automatically with no configuration needed.

18. Will I ever need more than one Tempy gateway?

In a consumer setting, unlikely. In a business setting, maybe. The need for more than one gateway will arise when over one thousand Tempy sensors are being used within a single use-case (1 gateway per 1000 sensors), or you’re wanting to extend Tempy’s connectivity range.

19. What are the dimensions of the Tempy sensor and gateway?

  • Tempy sensor: 4 in x 1.9 in x 1 in (10.2 cm x 4.8 cm x 2.5 cm)
  • Tempy gateway: 4.1 in x 2.3 in x 1 in (10.4 cm x 5.8 cm x 2.5 cm)

20. How do you mount a Tempy sensor?

Tempy sensors are lightweight and screw mountable.

21. How accurate are Tempy sensor measurements?

Tempy’s temperature sensor has an accuracy range of ±0.5°F (±0.25°C), and the relative humidity sensor has an accuracy range of ± 3% RH (max), 0-80% RH.

22. Can Tempy sensors be calibrated?

No. Tempy sensors are factory-calibrated.

23. Are more accurate temperature sensors available?

24. Can I export my Tempy data?

Yes. All historical Tempy data can be accessed and downloaded through our online web application (CSV file).

25. Can I set Tempy to °C or °F?

Yes. This is an account setting manageable through the online web application.

26. What type of alerts can I set up through the online web application?

  • Temperature above/below a specified threshold
  • Humidity above/below a specified threshold
  • Dew Point above/below a specified threshold
  • Air-pressure above/below a specified threshold
  • Connectivity error between the Tempy sensor and gateway

27. When are Tempy alerts sent?

Instantly. If more than 4 temperature or humidity readings are missed (8 minutes) a connectivity error alert is sent. You also have the ability to add alert trigger delays and alert repeat intervals.

28. Can I send alerts to more than one contact?

Yes. There is no limit to the number of contacts you add to your Tempy alerts.

29. Does Tempy come with a warranty?

Yes. Tempy has a one year manufacturer warranty guaranteed to be free of both material and workmanship defects one-year from the date of activation.

31. Is Tempy scalable?

Yes. Additional Tempy sensors and gateways can be added/removed at any time and are all managed through one account.

32. I need a high-volume order of Tempy sensors and gateways. What should I do?
